Peony, Chrysanthemums, and Birds
Peonies are originally native to China, but because of their gorgeous appearance, they are the "King of Hyakka", which expresses that they are the most beautiful flower of the other 100 flowers. It was used as a symbol of wealthy people. Peonies were introduced to Japan in the Nara period for medicinal use. It became a popular pattern from the Edo period when the cultivation itself progressed and was appreciated as a familiar flower. The chrysanthemum is one of the four Shikunshi (It is called so because both noble appearances and characteristics as the plant are thought to be the characteristic that Kunshi should have), and the birds which gather there might be a happy scenery. Within the gorgeousness of the shiny fabric and gold thread, it also has a sense of the serene taste of the natural world.
