Hydrangea has been around for a long time and can be found in the Manyoshu(the oldest anthology of poems). Because the shape of the flower resembles a honeycomb, it has been said that collecting nectar will bring good luck with money. In addition, it is said to represent patient love because it endures and blooms beautifully even during the long rainy season. In addition, since many flowers are attached, it has the meaning of "making many things", and it is also a pattern favored by warlords.
It was after the Edo period that hydrangea came to be widely used as a pattern. Artists of the Rimpa school skillfully patterned large blue-purple flowers on handicrafts. The silver thread is used abundantly, and the glossy appearance seems to represent the hydrangea wet in the rain.
