Medaka (killifish) is the smallest freshwater fish that lives in Japan. It is rarely made into a pattern by itself, and is expressed as one of the waterside patterns together with hydrology and aquatic plants. This fabric also has killifish drawn along with the flow of water, giving it a refreshing impression.
In China, fish is pronounced "yui", which is the same pronunciation as "surplus", so it has been a symbol of wealth and happiness. In addition, since fish lay a lot of eggs, it has been treated as an auspicious pattern for the prosperity of descendants.
